Willow Smith, 13, has been an international music star since the age of 11. She’s grown up fast, and her parents have made it clear that they have a hands-off parenting style that recognizes their children as little adults. (Which is most likely based on the teachings of the Scientology cult.) Willow has pushed back somewhat against her parents’ insistence that she grow up fast and join the family business. A couple of years ago she decided to pull out of the Annie movie remake that her dad, Will Smith, created for her as a starring vehicle. She also put her singing career on hold.
That’s all preface for this latest controversy in which Willow, just 13, was photographed in bed with 20 year-old former Hannah Montana actor, Moises Arias, who happened to be shirtless. (You can see that picture here.) To put this into context, Will Smith has said, of discipline, that “the rule in our house is you can do anything that you want and we don’t pull the parent card until danger is involved.” So does that mean that Willow, 13, is being left unsupervised with 20 year-olds?
The photo was posted to Twitter by Arias and deleted, but it’s still up on the website 490tx.com, which is said to be the site of “a mutual photographer friend.” That site has photos of Willow, her brother Jaden, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner, all of whom seem to run in the same circles and were at Coachella together. (Remember when Jaden was said to be dating Kylie?) Also there are plenty of photos of Arias shirtless, and that seems to be his default state.
So the picture that has everyone talking may be totally innocent. Maybe they were just hanging out. There was another person taking the picture after all. For her part, Willow hasn’t addressed this directly. She tweeted Sunday that she “meditated for 5 hours last night” and she also retweeted a Childish Gambino (Troy from Community) tweet that “u don’t know me.” We seem to know that she’s 13 and hanging out with much older teens. If I was her mother, I would be checking up on her. Then again, if I was her mom I like to think she wouldn’t be in that situation. You never know, though, kids are tricky.
